-Carlos Chavez Biography
The Famous People.com

Carlos Chavez was intrigued by the "modern" technological advances of the time which is reflected in his music. His travels as a child to places with strong indigenous influence, including his own native Aztec heritage is also evident in his music.
Carlos Chavez was born in Popotla, Mexico City on June 13, 1899. He was the son of Augustin Chavez, who invented a special plough that was in high demand in the United States. His father died when Carlos was only three years old. He and his six siblings were raised by his mother, Juvencia.

His older brother, Manuel was his first piano teacher. Carlos Chavez continued his musical studies with a variety of different teachers, even studying with Manuel Ponce who was a leading composer in Mexico.
